Woody
Hey, kids! I'm Woody doll. Where did I come from all of a sudden, you ask? It was a little girl named Susan who, when she was sick, strung beads all day. She wasn't happy with what she made for a long time, so she asked her daddy to help her make a playmate to talk to and tell him her secrets. Daddy looked at the pile of beads scattered on Susan's quilt. He thought for a long moment and picked up the biggest one. He drilled holes for his feet, hands and head. He and Susan then strung more smaller beads on strings and connected them to the big one. And there was a little body with legs and arms. Zuzanka had one special bead that she liked best of all. She wondered where to put it. When Daddy added another bead, a beautiful little head and cap was born. Then all I had to do was join it to the body and I was almost finished. Finally Zuzanka drew blue eyes, a nose, a smiling mouth and big buttons on my tummy. And it was finally me, Woody, as you can see me in the picture. Susan liked me very much right away and we've been best friends ever since. Every night we would go to bed together and I would tell Susan stories. You know, children, I know a lot of them, and she liked them all very much. But when I really wanted to make my friend happy, I told her a story about a machine. That was her favourite story of all. Meanwhile, Susan has grown up and is now a big girl. And now I have no one to tell stories to. And since I know there are many little children in the world who would be delighted by my tales, I'll tell you one about a clever little machine. It's Susan's favourite. You will also learn something interesting about the animals you meet in the story, and I have prepared lots of nice games and interesting tasks for you. At the end of the book you will find a surprise - toys with characters you will get to know in a moment...
